I'm interested in installing Oracle on my laptop, but I can't find any reviews of Oracle 10g Personal Edition. Do you have any experience with it? In your opinion, is it worth the $280-$400 price tag (those are the two prices I find at OracleStore.com)? I'm interested in getting it primarily so I can work on bringing my SQL skills up to speed and eventually maybe teach myself PL/SQL; I'm just trying to figure out whether it's worth the investment, and whether others have been satisfied with it.
If you are interested in installing Oracle to develop your SQL and PL/SQL skills, I would suggest downloading it from the
Oracle Technology Network Web site
. All you have to do to gain access to OTN is register -- there is no fee for this. Neither is there a fee to download Oracle Database 10g Enterprise or Standard Edition as long as you are not using the software for any commercial or production purposes. In this case, you must purchase appropriate licensing from Oracle Corporation. Be sure to read the license agreement prior to downloading the software just so you are aware of the terms.
Oracle also just released Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, which would be perfect for learning. You can find...
