Q

Installing Oracle with raw volumes

I am a system administrator and have been told by my company to install Oracle on a raw device (volumes). I have created the required volumes on my storage. Can anybody guide me on how to install Oracle and point it to use the raw volumes?

I am a system administrator and have been told by my company to install Oracle on a raw device (volumes). I am using Solaris Unix 5.8 and SunStoredge A1000. I have created the required volumes on my storage. Can anybody guide me on how to install Oracle and point it to use the raw volumes? Thanks and regards.
Your question does not indicate which release of Oracle you are planning to install, so I will assume that it is Oracle 10g Release 2. The Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Installation Guide for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit) has a subsection that describes how to configure raw partitions or raw logical volumes. This information can be found here.
