My operating system is Windows 98. I am installing Oracle 8i, and after that I'm installing d2k 6i. After installation when I open Forms it can't connect with Oracle Database; an error message appears on the screen: "unable to connect tnsnames.ora." Please advise me on how to connect Oracle 8i and d2k 6i successfully. I'm installing for the first time in my system.
Why are you installing such outdated Oracle database and developer software on an outdated operating system? If the purpose of installing this software is to learn, then I would suggest learning on Oracle software that is supported and up to date. This, of course, means upgrading your operating system, as well. I certainly hope this is not a production system you are planning to build. In any case, you need a listener running for your database and a tnsnames.ora file (usually located in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin) with a service definition for your database. Then you should be able to connect to the database with Developer 2000.
