Installing Oracle 8.1.7 on machine with Pentium 4 processor

We are trying to Install Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition onto our Dual Xeon (Pentium 4) with Windows 2000 on it. The installation works fine, but when it comes to the configuration of the Listener we always get the "symcjit.dll not found" message, then the installation hangs or we have to abort it. At the moment we are about to create a database, but everything we do ends up in the ORA-12560 error message. We adjusted the sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora and listner.ora. Is it possible to bypass that error in tricking the system?

There were issues with installing 8.1.7 on Pentium 4 processors whose symptoms were errors related to this dll. An alert including several workarounds are available on MetaLink. I'd search for "P4 installer 8.1.7" and you should come up with it.
