How much space is required to rebuild an index and in which tablespace? When is the original index deleted? Is it same in 8i and 9i versions?

Rebuilding an index will require two copies of the index for a short period of time, the original copy and the new copy. The original copy is deleted as the last step in the index rebuild. You'll need enough room for both copies of the index until the rebuild is complete. This is the same in both 8i and 9i.
