Q

How to protect Oracle 9.2 from virus

What is the best way to virus protect an Oracle 9.2 database server? I am told that you can not install anti-virus

software on an a Windows 2000 server running Oracle 9.2. Your virus protection of your Oracle server is no different than virus protection of any server. There is one caveat to that rule though. Your virus protection software must work well alongside your running Oracle instance. There are some virus protection software packages that don't work well with Oracle running on Windows. The problem that many people have seen is that Oracle locks the files that are in use by the instance and the virus software wants access to those files.

We've used TrendMicro's Office Scan with very good success in our environment. It may be the virus protection software you are looking for.
