How to encrypt RMAN backups

An Oracle user asks if it is possible to encrypt the backup in the Oracle 9i without using other application tools.

Is it possible to encrypt the backup in the Oracle 9i without using other application tools (Netbackup, Ibackup, Veritas, etc)?

Can we do the same in the incremental backup?

Oracle does not encrypt its backup pieces from RMAN out of the box. However, you might want to look at an Oracle product called Database Vault. This product will encrypt RMAN backups no matter if the backup is incremental or full.
