Getting agent running to install the grid option

Getting agent running to install the grid option

I was trying to install Oracle10g database Enterprise Edition on Windows XP Professional. I would like to install "Grid" instead of "Database control", but the grid option is disabled and says 'NO AGENT RUNNING FOUND'. The machine has no prior Oracle software. My question is how can I get the agent running without having any Oracle software on the machine?

You'll first have to obtain and install the Grid Control software and make sure you have a grid control agent on the host you're installing the database onto before doing the database installation. When the installer detects the presence of the grid control agent on the host, it will allow you to choose the grid control option.

You can download the OEM Grid Control software from otn.oracle.com/software.
