Q

Export is fine, but import fails

We are currently running Oracle 8.1.5.0.0 on HP-Unix. I am trying to export a table/schema, but although the export is fine, I have a problem when trying to import it to Oracle 9.2.0.1.0, running on Win2000. Error message is as follows: IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully Did you FTP the file to another server? If so, make sure that you FTP explictily in Binary mode....

If you FTP and do an ASCII mode transport, then you will get this error.

Another thing you can try is to export with the 9.2.0 exp utility. If the 8i database is on a remote server, create a TNS alias to that database then export with "userid=system@tns_alias".
