Q

Exadata, hybrid columnar compression, and inserts

One reader asks Oracle Exadata book co-author Rick Greenwald about compression on row-insertion on Exadata.

I have a question related to Exadata. Why are the new rows that are inserted into the compressed table not getting compressed? It is it like I need to compress it again.

Exadata Hybrid Columnar Compression only does compressions on direct load operations, so rows added with INSERT operations will not be compressed.
