Q

Errors with character set in export

While trying to export, I get the following error:

Export done in WE8MSWIN1252 character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR
 character set
EXP-00002: error in writing to export file
 EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully.
The platform is Windows 2000, and my database has the same character set.

The character set messages are informational. They are not contributing to your problem. The EXP-00002 error message is the cause of your problem. The EXP-00000 message is just telling you that the export ended abnormally, due to the EXP-00002 message.

The EXP-00002 error is telling you that the export process could not write to the dump file it is trying to create. There are a number of reasons for this. Is the destination disk device full? You must have enough room on this device for the dump file. Does the user executing the exp process have write permissions to the disk device? Is the destination device READ WRITE or READ ONLY? You need to be able to write to this device.

Once you figure out why you cannot write a file to the destination device, you will be able to solve your export problem.
