Q

Error when updating a large table

When updating a large table with more than 1,000 rows, Oracle8i (8.1.5) gives error message:

ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated Disconnection was forced and I even tried query from server (windows Nt 4.0 itself).
For some reason, your database crashes. You'll have to check your database's alert log for more information. Also look in the BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST or USER_DUMP_DEST directories to see if a trace file was generated at the time of the database crash. These trace files can shed more light on to the exact problem.

One further note is that Oracle 8.1.5 is a very old version full of lots of bugs. Any number of bugs could be causing your problem. You should apply the 8.1.7.4 patchset or upgrade to Oracle 9.2.0.4.
