Defining Oracle host string vs. host name

What is the difference between Oracle Host String and Host Name?
A Host Name is the name of the server. For instance, the server's name might be dbserver1.acme.com. The Host String is used to define the connection to the database server. For instance, a Host String to define the connect to the host shown above might look like:

(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dbserver1.acme.com)(PORT = 1521)
