Q

Creating a standby database using RMAN

How can I create a standby database using RMAN? The primary database and standby database are on the same machine.
A standby database on the same machine doesn't make too much sense to me, except for testing. If the machine is available, the the primary should be available too.

To use RMAN to create the standby, the instructions are fully documented in the Oracle9i Recovery Manager User's Guide, specifically Chapter 13, "Creating a standby database using Recovery Manager."
