Q

Connection problems -- shutdown in progress

I'm having a problem connecting. I'm getting database error: "Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress." I've already shut down/started up the database manually through svrmgrl, but the database did not open.
The only way to know for sure what is going on in this situation is to consult your alert log. If you've done a SHUTDOWN ABORT followed by a STARTUP command, and you still get the above, then your startup is aborting. Your alert log will contain information why this is the case.
