A cold backup is the easiest backup to perform. The steps are as simple as follows:
- SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
- Use OS commands to copy all of your datafiles, control files and online redo logs to your backup destination.
That's all there is to it. It is also a good idea to back up your parameter file, any password file and your database software. But these can be backed up with the database up and running.
