Q

Circumstances for error after removing data file and shutting down

This Content Component encountered an error
When the database is open and I remove the data file from the operating system and then shutdown the database, it gives an error, which is correct. But when I add a data file to the database and then remove this file and then shutdown the database, it does not give the error. Can you please let me know why this is happenning?
The reason that adding the data file, removing it, and shutting down the database does not give an error is because the database does not need to update this data file header on database close. Therefore, it does not see it as missing. When you start the database, it will notice that the data file is missing and report an error back to you.
