Q

Cannot log in because of ORA-12560 error

I've installed Oracle Client 9i version 2 on Windows XP but I cannot log in. I get the error, "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol...

adapter error." I am using Oracle for graduate school. I am using a wireless network in my home. Please help.

Are you sure you had a successful installation? Did you check the installation logs for errors?

I don't think there's any way that having a wireless network would impact your ability to connect with Oracle since the two operate at different layers of the stack. On Windows systems, I've seen this error sometimes if the sqlnet.ora file contains a line like this "SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS)". So, you may try removing that line and see if your error message changes. If it isn't in your sqlnet.ora, you may try adding it and see if that resolves your issue.
