Can I load Oracle 8 on Windows Server 2003?

Oracle expert Brian Peasland explains why Oracle 8 will not load on Windows Server 2003 and how to perform an Oracle upgrade in this expert tip.

My database is in Oracle 8 running on Operating System NT 4.0. Now I want to change the OS to Windows Server 2003. How can I load Oracle 8 on Windows Server 2003?
Oracle 8 is not supported on Windows 2003. You'll have to upgrade the database to 10g or 11g. I would recommend installing 10g or 11g on Win 2003 and creating a new, blank database. Then take a full export from your Oracle 8 db. Import the full dump into the new database and your change will be complete!
