Backing up data using VB code only

I am developing an application in VB with Oracle 9i. My problem is with backup and restoration. Which is the most convenient and flexible way to achieve this? I want to do this via VB code ONLY.

I am developing an application in VB with Oracle 9i. My problem is with backup and restoration. Which is the most convenient and flexible way to achieve this? Basically I want to do this via VB code ONLY. Your help in this regard will be appreciated.
The most efficient and best method is to use RMAN to back up your database. Backing up your database is useless unless you can also restore data from the backup. With RMAN, you not only get the ability to back up your data, you can also restore the data in the event of a failure in a very efficient manner. RMAN will figure out what is missing and what needs to be recovered, and pull that from the backup files.

There is no VB interface for RMAN. However, with VB, you can call an external routine to run the RMAN utility.

If you want to code VB-specific backup routines, then you will have to write these yourself. You will have to write the routines to extract the data from the database and store the data in a backup file. And you will also have to write the routines to restore from your custom backup. Additionally, you'll have to handle all sorts of multi-concurrent transactions and how they might impact your database.

This will require a lot of work and you will be reinventing the wheel, since Oracle already provides all of this with RMAN.
