Q

Adding default temp tablespace when database can't be opened

How can I add a default temp tablespace if I can't open the database?

Symptoms:

After installing 9.2.0.5 patch, when we try to start the database we get error:

ksedmp: internal or fatal error
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [qctstc2o1], ...

Current SQL statement for this session:

select value$ from props$ where name='DEFAULT_TEMP_TABLESPACE'

That's a good one, but I'd bet that Oracle already has a bug filed on it. I imagine there's an event to set to bypass the check so that you can get the DB opened, fix the problem, and then you can go back to life as normal.

Since you mentioned it, I'd recommend staying on 9.2.0.4 until we see how 9.2.0.6 behaves. I've seen lots of customers experiencing issues on 9.2.0.5, mostly related to optimizer choices and have been recommending to stay at 9.2.0.4 unless there's some very compelling reason to upgrade to 9.2.0.5. I hear that 9.2.0.6 is coming soon-ish, and is reported to be the "real" terminal patch set for 9.2.0. They said the same thing about 9.2.0.3 if I remember right.
